Te Aroha
The Edwardian spa town of Te Aroha sits at the base of Mount Te Aroha, which is the tallest peak in the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park. Hiking tracks up Mount Te Aroha begin in the town domain; it takes about 3 hours to reach the summit.
The domain itself has hot pools for bathing, with luxurious spa treatments available. You'll also find the historic Cadman Bath House, home to Te Aroha Museum, and the world’s only hot soda water geyser here.
Te Aroha is rich in history. A heritage trail will guide you around Te Aroha’s many historic buildings and monuments, dating back to the early 1880s. Travel along the walking trails in the Waiorongomai Valley to gain insight into the area's gold rush days.
For cyclists, the Te Aroha to Paeroa section of the Hauraki Rail Trailstarts near the domain, and great mountain biking tracks are also on offer around the base of Mount Te Aroha.
Te Aroha is only a short drive from Matamata and the famous Hobbiton Movie Set.
